Traffic Safety Improvements

The city will be enhancing several crosswalks in our neighborhood in the coming months. This is something the council is very excited about and we hope it makes Glendale safer for everyone!

1. 900 West @ Dalton Ave, Fayette Ave, and Montague Ave: These three crosswalks will be updated to have rectangular flashing beacon (RFB) signs and other general pedestrian enhancements.

2. 1400 W @ California Ave (Mountainview Elementary): These include RFBs, a refuge island, and bulb-outs (see image below).

3. 1525 W @ Redwood Rd (Redwood Health Center) : Crosswalk and RFBs

4. 1700 S @ Glendale Regional Park: HAWK scheduled to be installed this summer.

Navajo Street Rezone

The City is planning to vote on a rezone change on April 21st to RMF-30, which would allow up to 10 small units on the property. The mile-squared block is almost entirely single-family lots, but as there are many lots owned by real estate investors on Navajo St, this rezone paves the way for similar projects along the entire street. 

Although the period for public comment has passed, you can still make your voices heard with our District 2 representative Alejandro Puy and the rest of the City Council.

It is important that this rezone is done with community input and careful consideration for the future of this small neighborhood street. The lot change to RMF-30 is unprecedented in the entire mile-square block (other than the new RMF-30 lot next to California Ave that the City owns), so it will shape the future of the neighborhood.

Petition to Update City Code

Salt Lake City Council has initiated a petition to update the definition of “family” in city code. The term is an integral part of the housing definitions and determines the type of housing and the occupancy of a dwelling. The purpose of zoning regulations defining “family” is primarily to regulate population density and to separate incompatible land uses.

Daily Water Use Limits

Mayor Erin Mendenhall has initiated a petition to modify the existing regulations pertaining to the daily amount of water that can be used by new commercial, industrial, and institutional development.

Westside Coalition’s Annual Meeting

Join the Westside Coalition for their annual Community Celebration & Annual Meeting — an evening to connect, celebrate, and shape the future of the Westside.

This event brings together residents, community organizations, local leaders, and neighborhood partners for a lively and welcoming gathering. Enjoy food from Westside restaurants, visit with community vendors, and meet the people working every day to strengthen our neighborhoods.
