Glendale Neighborhood Active Transportation Plan

Welcome to the Active Transportation Plan for Glendale! This plan is a long-term vision that outlines policies, programs, and infrastructure improvements to enhance the active transportation network of the community.

Developed in close collaboration with the Glendale Neighborhood Council, this plan represents a significant step towards providing residents with a range of transportation options while reducing automobile dependency. Active transportation is an essential aspect of urban planning that promotes healthy, sustainable, and equitable communities.

One of the main objectives of this plan is to create a safe and connected network of bike lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks throughout the neighborhood. This plan will encourage residents to walk or bike instead of driving, leading to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution.

By implementing the strategies outlined in this plan, we aim to promote the use of public transportation, including buses and trains, and to make transit more affordable and accessible for low-income residents. Overall, this plan is crucial for creating a more accessible, walkable, and bike-friendly community.

This plan has six main components:

The Vision – This chapter makes the case for active transportation and presents case studies of similar communities that have made their own active transportation plans.

Existing Conditions – This chapter analyzes the existing conditions in Glendale in terms of demographics, environmental concerns, safety issues for people walking and biking, and existing active transportation infrastructure.

Glendale’s Place in Other Plans – This chapter examines the current planning context that Glendale operates in, from a regional down to a neighborhood level. The chapter helps establish what has already been planned for the neighborhood in terms of active transportation and where gaps still remain.

Public Engagement – This chapter chronicles the project team’s work to gather input and feedback from Glendale residents on how they envision the future of walking and biking in their neighborhood.

Recommendations and Prioritization – This chapter lays out recommendations to improve the walking and biking network in the neighborhood, based on community feedback and an analysis of existing conditions. Additionally projects are prioritized based on the goals developed for this plan.

Implementation and Funding – This chapter identifies potential funding sources at the federal, state, and local level for the projects proposed in chapter 5 and how projects could be implemented in the future.
